ABOUT THE AREA

The numerous lakes and wetlands provides a plethora of hunting and fishing opportunities in the Lake Park area. In addition, there is an abundance of public land available for hunting.

Iowa has changed greatly since becoming a state in 1846. The prairies that helped develop the highly productive soils have been reduced by more than 99 percent. Many communities in the state are dedicated to revitalizing and preserving Iowa's Native Prairie Flowers and Grasses. All along the edge of Silver Lake Park you'll view native flowers growing in wild.

Lake Park is just 12 miles west of Spirit Lake on Highway 9.

KNOX CABIN

Located along the lake, Silver Lake City Park provides a scenic area for family picnics, reunions or just a place for the kids to play.

Also located at the City Park is the Knox Cabin. This was the first home in Lake Park and was built by C. B. Knox in 1869 on the north side of Silver Lake. The home is furnished with many of the items common to that time period. The interior of the cabin is open for viewing during the summer months.

FISHING

Fish on the lake shore, from a boat or even off our private dock - Silver Lake is a fisherman's dream! And, in the winter months, ice fishing is always a hit. Along the north side of Silver Lake is Trappers Bay State Park. The park has many areas for fishing from shore as well as a dock.

SNOW & SNOW PLAY

Snowmobile and snow shoe enthusiasts as well as those people who just enjoy playing and sliding in the snow have long been drawn to the Okoboji Wintersports area. The Northwest Iowa Snowmobile Alliance (NISA) maintains several miles of snowmobile trails in northwest Iowa. The NISA trails connect most communities within the three-county area and also connect with trails in bordering counties.

The Silver Lake Country Club is located along the south side of Silver Lake, just off highway 9 along Country Club Drive. The 9-hole, par 36 course is well maintained with many challenging holes.
