Iowa Great Lakes Area!

Everyone who has ever visited the Iowa Great Lakes area in the spring or summer agrees that it, without a doubt, ranks on the top list of places to be. Blue skies and crisp clean air are generally predominant during the summer months. Outdoor sports to enjoy include fishing, canoeing, biking, hiking, boating, cycling and golfing, just to name a few. In fact it is safe to say that if it is an outdoor activity, it is done here with regularity... including just relaxing.

John Engle, Sr. raised his family in this grand home and the youngest son of the couple was born in the house. Innkeepers John Engel, Jr. and wife Sharlene have enjoyed every moment of their journey restoring this wonderful B&B and filling it with period antiques.

Here is one of Sharlene's tasty recipes that will be appearing in the Second Edition of the Discover Iowa Travel Guide & Cookbook!

DO AHEAD POTATO PUFF

6 med potatoes, peeled

1 tsp dry mustard

3/4 cup half & half

1/4 cup butter

1/4 cup minced onion

1/3 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese

Cook potatoes in boiling salted water until tender. Drain well.

Beat or mash potatoes, just until smooth. Add next four ingredients and beat until fluffy. Then, add cheese and onion, mix lightly. Spoon into a greased 1 1/2 quart casserole.

Bake in preheated 365° degree oven for 50 to 60 minutes. Can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated. Bake a full 60 minutes.
