Visiting artists enjoy their stay.

Many of our visiting artists spend a large majority of their time in the Gallery Studio. Our visiting artists are often found working in studios throughout the complex and most are actively involved in art enrichment events throughout their stay with us.

Our visitors enjoy touring historic Ft. Madison, and one of its attractions is  the Old Fort Players.  The Old Fort Players  is a local performance theater that will seat approximately 100 people and has performances 5 times a year.

Fort Madison Activities

In addition to the National Historical sites of Nauvoo and the Fort Madison Downtown Business District, the home is located on the Old Settlers Park, also a restored Victorian Park. Within a few short blocks is the Old Fort Madison, with its permanent Smithsonian exhibit. The Old Fort Madison, established in 1808, is an accurate reconstruction of the first military fort on the upper Mississippi. Additional information and visitors guide to Fort Madison may be found at www.visitfortmadison.com.

The Mississippi River is one of the world's major river systems in size, habitat diversity, and biological productivity. It is the longest and largest river in North America. The river supports a diverse array open-water and floodplain habitats, including extensive habitats on national wildlife refuges.

The Victoria is located on the Iowa side of the Mississippi River, directly across from historic Nauvoo, Illinois, site of many restored structures built by the Prophet Joseph Smiith, and the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. Also, Nauvoo is home of the National Icarian Heritage Society and the Living History Foundation Museum of its founder, professor Dr. Lillian M. Snyder. Additional information is available at www.beautifulnauvoo.com and The Center for Icarian Studies at Western Illinois University, Macomb, Illinois.
