The Mississippi River is one of the world's major river systems in size, habitat diversity, and biological productivity. It is the longest and largest river in North America. The river supports a diverse array open-water and floodplain habitats, including extensive habitats on national wildlife refuges.

The Victoria is located on the Iowa side of the Mississippi River, directly across from historic Nauvoo, Illinois, site of many restored structures built by the Prophet Joseph Smiith, and the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. Also, Nauvoo is home of the National Icarian Heritage Society and the Living History Foundation Museum of its founder, professor Dr. Lillian M. Snyder. Additional information is available at www.beautifulnauvoo.com and The Center for Icarian Studies at Western Illinois University, Macomb, Illinois.
