SW Iowa Activities ~ There is such a wide variety of activities and events in the northwest Iowa area -- way too many to list all. We have listed the most popular attractions below and will add new ones as they grow in popularity.
Annett Nature Center - Near Lake Ahquabi State Park, the Annett Nature Center is home to the Warren County Conservation Board and features a beautiful facility which offers an educational look at Warren County’s natural resources. There are educational resources, trails, and many opportunities to explore the outdoors in the Indianola area.
Des Moines Metro Opera - The Des Moines Metro Opera is one of the largest regional opera companies in the country. Each year three world class operas are presented in repertory during June and July. The National Balloon Classic is held in Indianola each year. This is family fun at its best!
Lake Greenfield - Located 1/2 mile southwest of Greenfield, Iowa, on Lake View Drive, Lake Greenfield is a 236-acre park with a 2-mile walking trail around a 44-acre lake that was constructed in 1981. A boat ramp, fishing, sailing, shelter houses, and a sand volleyball court can be enjoyed at Lake Greenfield.
Mormon Trail Lake and Park - Located 1 1/2 miles southeast of Bridgewater, Iowa, at 2828 Delta Avenue this 35-acre lake offers fishing, shelter houses, a playground, sailing, and swimming. Mormon Trail Lake is named for the Mormon's migration through the area and provides recreation for visitors of all ages.
Western Skies Scenic Byway - Experience rolling meadows, boundless horizons, and wide-open roads while traveling along Highway 44 through Guthrie County. The 140-mile byway is one of five designated routes across Iowa that reveals the true beauty of the state.
Middle Raccoon River - The Middle Raccoon River is one of the most scenic and beautiful rivers in the state of Iowa and offers excellent smallmouth bass fishing and canoeing. Raccoon River Valley Trail - The RRVT is a 56-mile, paved, multi-use recreational trail that extends from Clive, in the Des Moines metropolitan area, to Jefferson.
Shaw Center for Performing Arts - The Graceland Performing Arts Series brings international performances of dance and music to Decatur County.
