A
visit to the Ramsey Farm enables you to learn first hand what it was like to
live and work on a farm in Iowa during the early 1900's. The huge big barn has
hay lofts and big horse stalls and a milking parlor. A tac Room where saddles
and harness are kept, ready for use.
Daily farm activities include horseback riding,
buggy and wagon trail rides, feeding livestock, milking cows, gathering eggs,
hiking, fishing and perhaps helping in the fields, garden or orchard. Evening
options include fireside barbecues, ice cream socials, hayrides, and barn
dances. Golf, tennis and swimming are available for our guests at the nearby
Mount Ayr Country Club and Lewis Park.
The animals you will see are much like those of the 1900's. Our chicken house is
unique in that the eggs can be gathered from outside. We have Rock Island Red
chickens and an incubator for hatching new chicks. Other animals are ewes with
new lambs, a nanny goat and 2 kids, A jersey milk cow and four head of horned
herefords. We also have tame ducks on our pond, numerous kittens and a puppy.
Our horse herd consists of four riding horses
and a team of draft belgians. Even if they are not pulling a tour group, they
are magnificent to look at while grazing on the rolling hillside.

Behind the Axtel House is a farm pond, stocked with bass and and other kinds of
fish. We have a catch and release program while we are trying to multiply our
stock of fish.
Guests can enjoy many activities, helping with chores and watching the animals.
