SPEND A DAY OR A WEEK
TO REMEMBER
The
Ramsey Farm at Lesanville is a 180-acre historic working farm and
village depicting the life and culture of rural America between the late
1800s and the early 1950s. Visitors, young and old, can experience
and sometimes even participate in the work and social activities of an
Iowa farm as it existed in that memorable bygone era.
Paul
Ramsey and Phil Burmeister established the Ramsey Farm Foundation in
2001 to restore and operate the farmstead and village for the enjoyment
of present and future generations. Ramsey has fond memories of his
childhood summers spent on this farm with his Aunt Jennie and Uncle
George Vance. He regrets that his children, his grandchildren and others
of their generations have never had that wonderful opportunity and
learning experience.
Two-hour
walking and horse-drawn wagon tours of the farmstead and village are
available for non-lodging visitors for groups of ten or more by advance
reservation.
One
or more of the meticulous restored Victorian houses and a bunkhouse
dormitory are available for families, corporate groups and reunion
retreats for a minimum of two days. Lodging guests may do their own
cooking or order, in advance, the farm-style breakfast, chuck-wagon lunch or
steak dinners
prepared and served by the Lesanville Inn Bed and Breakfast staff.
Daily farm activities include buggy and wagon trail
rides, hiking, fishing and perhaps helping in the
fields, garden or orchard. Evening options include fireside barbecues,
ice cream socials and barn dances. Golf, tennis and swimming are
available for our guests at the nearby Mount Ayr Country Club and Lewis
Park. We cater special events (family or any type of group gathering) in
our Pavillion Recreation Hall.
